Le Royal Tahitien Resort - Pirae, Tahiti, French Polynesia

When
Chairs installed September 2007

This resort in Tahiti, French Polynesia, required timber chairs in a style in keeping with the light, relaxed atmosphere of their outdoor Lagoon Restaurant. The chairs needed to be strong and durable and able to be freighted cheaply.

The classic Thonet Bistro bentwood chair in natural timber was chosen, to blend with the airy feel of the restaurant. The chair's distinctive slatted back echoes the restaurant's ceiling detail and the low, subtle proportion of the chair back adds to the informal atmosphere. The chairs were disassembled for shipping and reassembled on site to ensure minimum freight cost and the highest quality finished product.

Situated beside the black-sand Lagoon, the hotel's restaurant is in an open-air building constructed in 1937 and is of typical Tahitian design. The sleeping quarters were designed in 1965 and are classic examples of modern architecture from this period.
